Segara - Lombok & Gili Islands

The Plateau at Poor Knights Islands is a site we keep coming back to. Drop in and you’re on a broad shelf, typically 6 to 10 metres deep, surrounded by a curving rock wall. It’s a place that just feels alive. We’ve found ourselves drifting over thick kelp, watching schools of butterfly perch flit in and out of the fronds, and then following the wall down as it drops sharply to around 22 metres. The real draw here is the sheer number of crayfish tucked into every crevice along the wall – a veritable apartment block of them. It’s also a good spot for observing larger pelagics when the current is running, with kingfish often circling, and we’ve even had a few fleeting encounters with smooth hammerheads further out. For a shallower dive that still delivers big fish action and endless nooks to explore, The Plateau is a solid choice. We’d suggest going in the late morning when the sun angle really brings out the colours in the kelp and the water visibility tends to peak.
