With 246+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue-spotted stingrays, bull sharks, grey reef sharks, manta rays and mobula rays (devil rays) - Snorkelling reef offers some of Lombok & Gili Islands's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest April, May, November.
We found Snorkelling Reef to be a pretty mellow introduction to the Gili scene, a good spot if you’re just getting your fins wet. The site is a gentle slope of sand and seagrass beds, where we often saw green turtles grazing quite contentedly. It’s perfect for beginners, or if you just want a relaxed splash, drifting over the seagrass with the sun dappling through the water. While you won't find dramatic walls or huge pelagics here, the focus is on the smaller stuff – plenty of young damselfish darting between the blades and the occasional blue-spotted stingray resting on the sand.
