Solwie - Lombok & Gili Islands

Tuffy Canyon is one of those spots we always make time for on a trip to Ambergris, even if it’s overshadowed by its flashier neighbour, Tackle Box. What we love here is the easy, relaxed pace. It's relatively shallow, maxing out around 16 metres, making it perfect for a mellow second dive or if you're bringing along newer divers who want to build confidence. You'll spend your dive weaving through gentle coral formations, particularly some robust elkhorn and boulder brain corals that provide great cover for little reef fish. We often spot Northern neon gobies perched on the coral heads, their bright stripes really popping against the darker rock. Keep an eye out for green turtles cruising by; they’re regular visitors here, casually munching on the sea grass. Visibility usually hangs around 18 metres, a comfortable range to watch the jacks and snappers move in their schools. Our favourite part has to be spotting the more unusual residents, like the Slantlip Eel tucked into a crevice. It’s a site that rewards a slow, observant dive rather than a rush. Dive here when you want a beautiful, unhurried exploration without any strong currents to contend with.
