Turtle Heaven Gili - Lombok & Gili Islands

The Kashi Maru is exactly what we picture when we think of a Solomon Islands wreck dive: accessible, historical, and absolutely covered in growth. This Japanese freighter, sunk by Allied bombers while offloading trucks and fuel, rests in Bairoko Harbour at a comfortable 17 metres. We love that the holds are wide open, letting you swim through spaces still filled with truck chassis and fuel drums. Sunlight streams in, illuminating the structure, and the feeling of swimming amongst history is genuinely immersive. Coral has really taken over here. The deck is a tapestry of hard and soft corals, and you’ll spot moray eels tucked into crevices, octopuses camouflaged against the rust, and clouds of juvenile fish flitting through the superstructure. Visibility often hits 18 metres, making it easy to appreciate the scale of the Kashi Maru. It's a proper wreck dive, perfect for anyone who loves exploring sunken history without pushing deep limits. Give it a good 45 minutes by boat from Munda.
