Two Mountain - Gili Poh (Blow Bubbles Divers) - Lombok & Gili Islands

The Naufragio Itapagé is a wreck dive that really delivers. We love how much of the vessel is still discernible, even after its violent end during World War II. Hit by U-161, the freighter now rests on its starboard side, but the main draw is definitely the swim-through between the two enormous engines. It’s a tight squeeze, feeling the old steel brush against your shoulder, but the sense of history down there is palpable. Visibility usually hovers around 15 metres, which is plenty to take in the sheer volume of fish that call this artificial reef home. We often see schools of snapper swirling over the deck plates, and there’s a good chance of spotting nurse sharks tucked under ledges or turtles munching on algae. For divers who appreciate a wreck with a story, and aren’t afraid of a bit of an engine room exploration, Itapagé is a standout in Noronha. We’d suggest going early in the morning, before any stronger currents pick up, to fully appreciate the peaceful atmosphere.
