Puri Pinnacle - Raja Ampat

South Point shallow is one of those sites we always recommend to newer divers, or anyone who just wants to take their time. We love that you can settle into a comfortable 10-12m and just soak it all in. The main draw here is the sheer number of reef fish. You'll swim through thick shoals of longfin silversides, reflecting the sunlight like scattered sequins, and we often spot schools of Atlantic chub mackerel zipping past. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too: jewel morays peeking from crevices, and the surprisingly colourful whitesnout searobins scuttling across the sand. We'd suggest a late morning dive here. The light really penetrates the shallows, making the colours pop, and it’s generally before any stronger afternoon currents pick up. Visibility averages around 14m, which is perfectly good for enjoying the reef's texture and spotting the spotted sharpnose puffers hiding in plain sight. While the current description mentions sharks, we've found them to be an infrequent sighting on the shallow part of the reef, more often seen by those venturing deeper towards the 25m mark. For a relaxed dive brimming with everyday reef life, South Point shallow is a solid pick.
