Malaysia Diving: Sipadan and Borneo Adventures

Mabul and Kapalai are often the launchpad for a Sipadan trip, and for good reason. The diving around these islands is solid, particularly if you appreciate the smaller stuff – we’re talking frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish, and various nudibranchs. While Sipadan itself is renowned for its walls, schooling barracuda, and the occasional hammerhead sighting, Mabul and Kapalai offer a gentler pace with healthy reefs and a diverse critter population, making them a good option for all skill levels. If you’re planning a longer trip to the region, it’s worth spending a few days here before or after your Sipadan permits kick in.
