DON ARTURO - Malapascua

Don Arturo isn't one of Malapascua’s deep dives, not by a long shot. This wreck sits right under the surface, a casualty of Typhoon Cecil back in '79. We love it for its sheer accessibility – you can snorkel it, free dive it, or just spend a lazy hour on a shallow scuba tank exploring. It’s barely two metres deep, often less, so the light penetration is incredible. The wreck itself is pretty broken up, scattered across the sandy bottom, but you can still make out the hull plates and ribs. What makes it special for us is the amount of life that’s colonised the metal. Schools of tiny silversides shimmer around the decaying structure, and we often spot juvenile lionfish tucked into crevices. Look closely, and you’ll likely find a few nudibranchs grazing on the algae, too. It's an easy, relaxing dive, perfect for photographers wanting to play with ambient light or for those days when you just want a chill surface interval between deeper dives.
