EKA DJAYA - Southern Islands

The Eka Djaya, down to 29 metres, is a proper wreck dive for those who enjoy a bit of history and a real sense of discovery. We love the story behind this cargo vessel, built in '66, that went down in '78 after its cargo shifted in a storm. Dropping onto the deck, you can still feel the weight of that event. It’s a good-sized wreck, not too intimidating, and we find there’s plenty to explore around the hold and superstructure. Visibility can be a bit hit or miss here, so we always suggest picking your day carefully, perhaps aiming for an early morning slack tide. Despite the lower visibility compared to other sites, the wreck itself makes up for it. The metal has become a canvas for soft corals and sponges, attracting schools of batfish and fusiliers that swirl around the mast. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for nudibranchs and small crabs. This isn't a site for drift diving; it's a slow, deliberate exploration, perfect for divers who appreciate the character of a sunken ship.
