EU LEE 8 - Southern Islands

The EU LEE 8 wreck isn't about massive, intact structures; it’s about the sheer density of life that has claimed this collapsed lighter vessel since it went down in 1959. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the way the light filters through the schools of fusiliers, so thick they almost obscure the wreck itself. We particularly love circling the perimeter, watching the resident batfish lazily finning around the broken sections of hull. This wreck sits at a comfortable 22 meters, making it accessible for most open water divers, though we’d suggest some experience with buoyancy to really enjoy the finer details. While you won't be penetrating any grand spaces, there are plenty of nooks and crannies to peer into, often revealing a moray eel or a curious snapper. It’s a site for those who appreciate the smaller dramas of the reef, the way the soft corals shimmer, and the unexpected flashes of colour from nudibranchs clinging to the metal. Our favourite approach is to take it slow, letting the current carry you gently over the main debris field, keeping an eye out for the elusive stonefish often camouflaged among the growth.
