GUO LIANG 667 - Southern Islands

The Guo Liang 667 is our kind of Singapore diving – a proper wreck with a story. It went down in 2013, taking eight men with it, making it a sombre place to dive, but also a fascinating one. You’ll find it sitting upright, a big, boxy barge, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's dull. We love how quickly the local reef fish moved in; you’ll often swim through schools of yellowtail fusiliers so thick they almost block out the light, darting around the superstructure. Look closely at the deck, and you’ll spot nudibranchs, crabs, and the occasional moray eel peeking from a crevice. The max depth of 14 metres means good bottom time, perfect for really poking around. We’ve spent whole dives just circling the main hull, discovering new growth and new residents each time. Current can pick up here, especially around tide changes, so it’s best for divers comfortable with a drift. If you hit it on a calm day, though, the visibility can stretch to a surprisingly good 6-8 metres, letting you appreciate the scale of this working vessel turned artificial reef. It’s a compelling dive for those who appreciate wrecks with a bit of history, and the marine life that thrives on them.
