HOP THANH 15 - Southern Islands

The Hop Thanh 15 is one of our favourite Southern Islands wrecks, a cargo carrier that went down in 2011. You’ll find it sitting upright, mostly intact, which is always a bonus when you’re diving metal. We love the way the mast still stretches towards the surface, a real marker of its former life. The holds are open, inviting exploration, and that’s where you’ll usually find us, poking around with a torch. It’s not just a big metal box, though. The wreck has become a proper home for marine life. We’ve seen quite a few barracuda circling, inquisitive and not shy at all. Look closely at the superstructure; it’s covered in hydroids and little nudibranchs, sometimes a whole colony of them. It’s a comfortable 15 metres, so bottom time is generous, making it suitable for divers who appreciate a good wreck with plenty of nooks to investigate and a decent amount of ambient light. We’d suggest going on a slack tide for the best visibility, which can sometimes push past 10 metres here.
