KIJANG NO.274 - Southern Islands

Kijang No. 274 is one of our absolute favourite wrecks in Singapore. Sure, the visibility can be a bit hit or miss, but on a good day, when the light filters down through the green haze, the sense of discovery here is palpable. Dropping onto the deck at 17 metres, you can still feel the history. This isn't some pristine, intact vessel; it’s a broken, dangerous wreck, a skeletal frame now completely draped in soft corals. We love finning slowly over the collapsed sections, imagining the ship's last moments. Look for the resident batfish, often curious, swirling around the deeper parts of the superstructure. We’ve found decent-sized groupers tucked into the more sheltered spots, and occasionally, a bamboo shark resting on the silty bottom nearby. It's a fantastic site for macro too, so bring your focus light – nudibranchs and tiny crabs cling to the coral growth. This is a site for divers who appreciate the atmospheric side of wreck diving, not just big pelagics. Go on an incoming tide for the best chance at clearer water, and always keep an eye on your depth. It’s easy to get absorbed.
