KLM Star One - Southern Islands

KLM Star One isn't your typical Singapore dive, and that's precisely why we love it. This isn't a colourful coral fantasy, but a journey into history, sitting upright on the seabed at 23 metres. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer scale, the hull dark against the greenish light filtering from above. It's a real ship, not just a pile of debris, and that structure is what attracts so much life. We've spent dives just circling the main deck, spotting barracuda lurking in the shadow of the bridge and batfish schooling so tightly you can barely see through them. Look closer, and you'll find plenty of nudibranchs clinging to the metal, little flashes of colour on the rust. The current here can be genuinely tricky; it's what classified it as "dangerous," so don't attempt this without a good dive guide and solid experience. Our favourite time to visit is on a slack tide, first thing in the morning, when the visibility tends to be at its best, and you have the wreck mostly to yourself. This dive is for those who appreciate wrecks for their historical context and the unique ecosystems they create.
