KUALA KANGSAR - Southern Islands

Kuala Kangsar is a great example of a wreck that has truly become a part of the reef. We love how it’s matured since sinking in 1969; the 47-metre hull now completely encrusted. You’ll find it just outside Keppel Harbour, which means currents can get a bit shifty, so we always plan our dive for slack tide. It’s not a deep dive, maxing out at 20 metres, so bottom time is generous. We often spend a good portion exploring the stern, which has collapsed in on itself a bit, creating some interesting swim-throughs for those comfortable with overhead environments. Look for schools of yellowtail scad darting through the superstructure. The bow is still largely intact, covered in colourful soft corals and sponges. We've seen some impressive gorgonian fans here, and nudibranchs are always a good spot if you take your time. This wreck is perfect for divers who appreciate history and enjoy poking around an artificial reef that’s really come alive.
