LUCONIA - Southern Islands

The LUCONIA. Now, this isn't your everyday Singapore dive. We’re talking about a proper deep wreck here, sitting at 44 meters. She’s a motor vessel, went down in 1992, so she's had a good thirty years for nature to reclaim her. Dropping down, the bow comes into view first, a ghostly silhouette emerging from the green. The visibility often isn't fantastic – twenty feet on a good day – but that just adds to the atmosphere. As you get closer, the scale of her, 54.9m long, starts to sink in. We love the way the light filters through the superstructure, illuminating schools of fusiliers darting in and out of the hold openings. Look closely, and you’ll spot resident batfish hanging around the mast, and we’ve seen some absolutely massive groupers lurking in the darker recesses. Penetration isn't really an option here, not safely anyway, but there’s plenty to explore on the exterior, picking through the debris field and checking out the prop. This dive is definitely for experienced divers comfortable with depth and navigating lower visibility. Our top tip? Go on a neap tide for the best chance of lighter currents.
