MARITIME NO.1 - Southern Islands

Maritime No.1 is one of our absolute favourite wrecks in Singapore’s Southern Islands. This old motor vessel, sunk in '89 after a run-in with the ferry Intan Sari, sits upright at 16 metres, creating a genuinely impressive silhouette against the green water. Dropping down, you often hit a thermocline around 8-10 metres, and then the wreck just looms into view, the bow pointing north. We love poking around the bridge area, though penetration is tricky now given how much it’s collapsed. What makes Maritime No.1 a standout for us isn't just its size, but the way it’s become a living reef. Schools of fusiliers are usually so thick they almost block the light, shimmering like a silver curtain. You'll spot lionfish tucked into every nook, their spines fanning out, and big groupers often peer out from under plating. Our tip: go on a spring tide for the best chance of decent visibility. You might get 5-8 metres, enough to appreciate the scale. This site is perfect for divers who appreciate the history of a wreck and the way nature reclaims man-made structures.
