MV Henghong No. 168 - Southern Islands

The MV Henghong No. 168 is a relative newcomer to Singapore’s wreck diving scene, a motor barge that went down in 2003. At 19 metres, it’s a comfortable depth for most PADI Advanced Open Water divers, sitting upright and largely intact. We love how quickly this wreck has become a proper home for sea creatures. Schools of fusiliers often swirl around the bow, a shimmering curtain you can push through. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, typical for Singapore, but when it’s good, the Henghong offers some fantastic penetration opportunities if you’re properly trained and equipped. The cargo holds are open, inviting exploration, and we’ve found some surprisingly large groupers lurking in the shadows there. Look closely at the superstructure for nudibranchs and flatworms, especially on the rails. It’s a great site for photographers keen on marine life against an industrial backdrop. Our favourite time to dive it is on a slack tide, mid-morning, as the light filters down into the holds.
