MV. NURAH - Southern Islands

The MV. NURAH wreck, sitting at a comfortable 19m, is a real standout in Singapore’s Southern Islands. We love this site not just for the wreck itself, but for the life it attracts in what many would consider less-than-ideal conditions. Dropping down, you’ll first discern the stern, often shrouded in a thick school of yellowtail scad, shimmering like a liquid curtain. Penetrating the small cargo holds is a tight squeeze, but worth it if you’re comfortable in overhead environments; keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into the dark corners and juvenile batfish darting through the beams of your torch. What makes the NURAH special for us is the way it constantly changes. One dive you might find a massive grouper lurking under the bow, the next it’s a parade of damselfish defending their coral patches. The visibility here can be… challenging, ranging from a murky three metres to a respectable ten on a good day, but that just adds to the adventure. We’d suggest diving this one on a slack tide for the easiest exploration, otherwise, the current can really rip through, making it a drift-by rather than a deep dive into its history. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of a thriving artificial reef, not just pristine corals.
