NIAGA 40 - Southern Islands

The NIAGA 40 isn't just another wreck dive; it's a deep-water time capsule, sitting upright on the seabed off Singapore's Southern Islands. We love this site for its genuine sense of history, a real tangible piece of the past that you can actually touch. Dropping down, the sheer scale of the 81-meter motor vessel quickly becomes apparent. It’s a proper ship, not just scattered debris. She went down in 1986 after a collision, and you can still feel that sudden end. The superstructure is largely intact, allowing for some compelling penetration if you’re properly trained and equipped – though we'd always recommend a guide for first-timers here. We've seen schools of fusiliers so thick around the masts they almost block out the ambient light, and the occasional batfish cruises by, inspecting new arrivals. Keep an eye on your bottom time; 40 meters can eat through air quickly, but the visibility, often a good 10-15 meters, lets you appreciate the sheer scope of the wreck. This site is for experienced wreck divers looking for a substantial, historical dive, a genuine piece of maritime heritage with some interesting residents.
