NIKKO 1 - Southern Islands

NIKKO 1, a small fishing trawler, went down in 1995 after taking on water from its engine room. Now it’s an ideal spot for a leisurely, shallow dive, one we particularly enjoy on a sunny afternoon. The wreck itself is largely intact, lying upright in just a meter of water, which makes for incredible natural light. We love how the sunlight filters through the surface, casting dancing patterns over the hull. It’s a site where you really get to slow down, explore the nooks and crannies of the deck, and peer into the wheelhouse. Our favourite part is the incredible density of life that has colonised it. We often spot schools of juvenile snapper flitting in and out of the rusted metalwork. Look closely and you’ll find nudibranchs crawling along the railings, and tiny crabs scuttling between the barnacles. It’s perfect for macro photography, or just taking your time to observe the bustling ecosystem. This isn't a dive for big pelagics, but for a detailed look at Singapore’s more intimate marine life, NIKKO 1 truly delivers. Just remember your surface marker buoy; it's a busy shipping lane up top.
