PARAKOU 1 - Southern Islands

The PARAKOU 1 offers a glimpse into Singapore’s lesser-known wreck diving scene. This supply vessel, sunk in 2003, sits upright in about 25 metres of water, making it a fairly straightforward dive for those comfortable with deeper recreational limits. We love how the deck structures, particularly the wheelhouse, are still quite intact. You can fin around the bridge, seeing the outlines of what were once navigation consoles. Visibility here can be a bit hit or miss; on a good day, we've had 5-7 metres, enough to appreciate the scale. Our favourite moments are often spent exploring the cargo holds, now home to schools of yellowtail scad and the occasional batfish peering out from the shadows. Keep an eye out for resident groupers underneath larger plates of the hull. It’s a site that feels genuinely like an artificial reef, with soft corals starting to coat the metal and anemones tucked into crevices. Definitely a solid pick for divers looking for something a bit different from a typical reef dive, and a good reminder that even busy shipping lanes can hold their own secrets.
