PERMATA INTAN - Southern Islands

The Permata Intan, a tugboat that found its final resting place in Singapore’s Southern Islands, is one of our absolute favourite local wrecks. We love a good wreck dive, and while it might not be a deep technical plunge, this site offers plenty of character and some genuinely engaging exploration. Dropping down, you’ll immediately feel the solid structure of the hull beneath you, a familiar comfort in the often-murky green. What makes the Permata Intan a standout for us is its accessibility and the way marine life has utterly taken over. Schools of fusiliers often swirl above the deck, a shimmering curtain you can swim through. Inside the wheelhouse, if you manage to squeeze in, you might spot a large pufferfish staring back at you from the gloom. Look closely along the railings and engine room access points for colourful nudibranchs and flatworms. The wreck sits at a max depth of 13 meters, which means excellent bottom time, perfect for really poring over the details and watching the resident batfish glide by. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack tide to avoid the strongest currents, giving you the best chance to properly explore. It’s a fantastic dive for those looking for a solid wreck experience without the commitment of deeper sites, and a real testament to how resilient life is, even in unexpected places.
