PISANG PERAK - Southern Islands

Pisang Perak is one of those sites we always recommend to newer wreck divers around Singapore. It’s got history, without being overly challenging. The motor vessel went aground on the coral reef at Pulau Takong back in 1977, now it’s a gently listing skeleton, completely colonised by the reef. You'll spend most of your time around 9m, shallow enough for long bottom times. We love picking through the superstructure, imagining the ship's final moments. Look closely, because the steel beams are thick with colourful encrusting corals and sponges, a real explosion of orange and purple against the rust. Keep an eye out for damselfish darting between the crevices, and we’ve spotted moray eels peeking out from under collapsed sections more than once. The wreck is essentially an artificial reef now, buzzing with small reef fish, and sometimes you'll even spot a turtle grazing nearby. It’s a great spot for photographers keen on macro subjects or wide-angle shots of the wreck against the shallow light.
