Pulau Hantu - Southern Islands

Okay, Pulau Hantu. If you’re diving in Singapore, this is likely on your list. We know what people say – "Singapore diving?" – but Hantu offers a genuinely surprising amount if you know what to look for. It’s a shallow dive, usually topping out at 12 metres, making it super relaxed for beginners or photographers who want to take their time. Drop in, and you’re immediately in a different world. The visibility can vary, sometimes it’s a soupy five metres, other days it opens up to ten or twelve, which, for Singapore, feels like a dream. We love how the artificial reef structures have really taken hold, creating these little nooks and crannies. Keep your eyes peeled for the smaller stuff here. You'll often spot common dragonets flitting about in the sand, and the eight-banded butterflyfish are almost guaranteed. Our favourite is just hovering low over the corals, scanning for the grammistes blenny, with its cool striped pattern. You’ll see plenty of stonefish camouflaged on the bottom, so watch your trim. It's a great spot for macro life, with nudibranchs popping up in all sorts of colours if you have a keen eye. Dive it on a slack tide for the best experience; currents can pick up a bit and stir things around.
