Sebanggalaut - Southern Islands

Læsø Nordvest Rev might just be our pick for Denmark’s most underrated dive. Forget the wrecks for a moment; this is about life, pure and simple. We love dropping into a landscape of boulders coated in dead man’s fingers and anemones, feeling that slight push from the current that tells you the water is moving, bringing in the good stuff. You’ll spot Atlantic cod lurking in the shadows, surprisingly big for this part of the world, and greater weever burying themselves in the sand, just waiting to surprise the unwary. Keep an eye out for razorbills diving through the water column above you, little torpedoes on the hunt. Our favourite moments here are drifting over fields of blue mussels, watching hundreds of tiny crabs scuttling amongst them, a whole miniature world humming with activity. The visibility can swing wildly, typical for the North Sea, but when it’s good, it’s really good – enough to appreciate the scale of the reef. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack tide if you can; it makes for a much more relaxed experience, letting you truly soak in the subtle beauty of this place. It’s not a site for speed freaks, but for divers who appreciate the intricate details of a thriving northern reef.
