YC 254 - Southern Islands

YC 254 isn't going to blow your mind with dramatic drops or huge pelagics, but for Singapore diving, it's a solid, dependable standout. We love it because it’s a proper wreck, not just some scattered debris. This barge, sunk back in '74, sits upright and fairly intact at 11 metres, making it accessible even for newer wreck divers. Dropping down, the structure immediately looms, a dark shape against the often murky green. Visibility can be a challenge, sometimes just a few metres, but that just adds to the atmospheric dive. Our favourite part is navigating through the open cargo holds. It feels like real exploration, finning past the corroded steel beams, imagining the bulk cargo it once carried. Keep an eye out for the schooling fusiliers that dart in and out of the shadows. We've often found small moray eels peering from crevices and big groupers lurking in the deeper, darker sections of the holds. It's a surprisingly busy little ecosystem on that wreck. The deck offers a nice profile to cruise along, spotting various nudibranchs and flatworms clinging to the growth. It's a dive that rewards slow, careful observation rather than rushing.
