CH. WANAGIT 9 - Koh Tao

The CH. WANAGIT 9 is probably our favourite wreck dive on Koh Tao. You can tell she’s been down a while, settled into the sand at 16m, her hull split but still largely intact. It’s a proper motor vessel, not one of those purpose-sunk jobs, and that history makes it feel more substantial. We love poking around the engine room, though things are getting pretty silted up in there now. What makes it for us is how the reef has just taken over. Clownfish dart from anemones clinging to the railings, and you’ll see big groupers peering out from shadowed corners. Schools of fusiliers are so thick around the stern sometimes they block out the sun, it's a real spectacle. Keep an eye out for banded sea snakes winding their way through the superstructure, too. We’d suggest going early in the morning; the visibility tends to be better before the dive schools arrive, and the light filtering through the water onto the wreck is just something else. It’s an easy dive, perfect for anyone comfortable with a little penetration and ready to spend some time exploring a genuinely interesting piece of history.
