SAPATAYA - Koh Tao

Sapataya is one of Koh Tao's more unusual spots, essentially a very shallow, broken-up wreck that's more of an artificial reef structure these days. You're looking at a maximum depth of four metres here, which makes it perfect for longer dives, especially if you’re working on your buoyancy or just fancy a relaxed potter. The boat’s structure is pretty fragmented now, but it still offers some interesting nooks and crannies to peer into, and we often find small schools of juvenile snapper hanging out in the shelter. Expect to see lots of damsel fish, blennies, and the occasional pipefish camouflaged amongst the growth that’s colonised the metalwork. It’s a good one for photographers looking to practice macro in bright conditions, or anyone wanting a chill dive away from the deeper sites.
