Hà Trung 98 - Nha Trang

Hà Trung 98, we think, is Nha Trang’s most interesting wreck, and it sits in such shallow water even newer divers can enjoy it. It’s actually a Vietnamese fishing boat, sunk during a typhoon in 2009. There's a real sense of history here, a ghost of the sea, and we love how the boat has become a new reef. Dropping to the seabed, you’re straight onto the deck. The hull is largely intact, split in places, offering easy swim-throughs into cargo holds where flashlight fish dart away from your beam. Look into the shadows for stonefish and scorpionfish, perfectly camouflaged against the rust. We often spot schools of snapper hanging off the bow, and if you’re patient, a blue-spotted stingray might glide out from under the stern. It’s a peaceful dive, with the sunlight dappling through the deck structures, creating an almost cathedral-like feel. Visibility here can sometimes drop after heavy rain, but generally, it’s a calm, rewarding dive. Our top tip? Take your time exploring the engine room – that’s where we’ve found the biggest moray eels.
