Bird Rock - Sydney & New South Wales

Bird Rock is one of our favourite Sydney sites for a relaxed, easy dive, especially when you want to take your time. It’s a shallow spot, topping out at 13 metres, which means plenty of bottom time and lots of light filtering down onto those bommies. The visibility averages around 11 metres, which is decent for the area, and usually, conditions are pretty calm here, making for a stress-free entry and exit. We love just cruising around the channels between the rocks, taking our time poking into the crevices. You'll spot plenty of Snapper and Violet Roughy, and we’ve often seen big schools of Elf shimmering in the channels. Keep an eye out for Black Cod tucked away in the shadows; they’re a real treat to find. While the data mentions Bull Sharks and Great Whites, honestly, we've never seen them here, but it's a healthy system, so you never know. We find Bird Rock really suits anyone looking for a chilled-out dive, whether you want to practise your buoyancy over the gentle slopes or get really focused on macro life around the bommies. It's a genuinely pleasant way to spend an hour underwater.
