Camp Cove South

Camp Cove South is a sleeper hit, especially for a site right in Sydney Harbour. We’ve done countless dives here and it always delivers something interesting, even if it’s just eight metres deep. You drop in from the sand and immediately hit a patchwork of seagrass and kelp, dotted with boulders. It’s a macro playground, no question. We’ve spent hours here just spotting crested weedfish bobbing in the kelp, searching for granulated drupes on the rocks, and watching the little terns dive from above. The visibility averages about five metres, so it forces you to slow down and really look. Forget about big pelagics; this site is for the patient observer. We love heading out on a calm morning, maybe an hour after high tide, when the water has settled. You’ll find plenty of bream and wrasse, but keep your eyes peeled for the rarer finds like the carnation cowry. It’s a brilliant spot for navigation practice, especially with all the small bommies and undulations in the seagrass beds. Perfect for a relaxed Sunday bimble or shaking off the rust after a break.
