The Wall - Sydney & New South Wales

The Wall, just off Bare Island, is one of those Sydney sites we keep coming back to. Forget what you think you know about city diving; this place has a genuine wildness to it. We drop down and you immediately feel the difference, the water often a little cooler, a bit more rugged. It’s an impressive vertical drop, covered in sponges and gorgonians, with crevices you can peek into. Keep your eyes peeled for big-belly seahorses clinging to the deeper gorgonians; they’re often there if you know where to look. We’ve also spotted wobbegongs tucked into ledges and, if you’re lucky, a passing dusky shark in the blue. The currents here can be a bit frisky, so it’s definitely one for experienced divers who are comfortable with drift. Dive it on a clear day, and the light filtering down the wall is something else entirely.
