GOLDFINGER - Andros

Goldfinger isn't one of those wrecks that stares back at you fully intact, an eerie time capsule. This motor vessel, which went down off Fresh Creek in '77 after its seams gave out, lies at 50 metres, broken into sections. And that's precisely why we love it. The stern section is the most recognisable, still housing the propeller. We've spent hours poking around the scattered hull plates, which create fantastic overhangs and little caves for moray eels and nurse sharks. It's a proper hide-and-seek wreck, with schools of grunts and snapper swirling around the bigger pieces. You'll often find a solitary barracuda hanging motionless, just watching you pass. The light at this depth is a deep blue, giving everything a wonderfully dramatic feel, especially when a few sunbeams manage to pierce through the surface chop. We’d suggest saving this one for a calm day; the deeper descent combined with strong currents can make the ride a bit sporty. It’s a site for experienced divers comfortable with depth and navigating broken structures, offering a real sense of exploration rather than just observation.
