ONONDAGA - Andros

The **Onondaga** wreck, sitting in just 4 meters of water off Andros, is our kind of shallow dive. It's not about big, dramatic drops here, but about history you can practically touch and the way the sea reclaims things. We love how accessible she is, just a few kicks down, right there for you to explore. You’ll find the Onondaga broken into a few large sections, scattered across a sandy bottom, testimony to being torpedoed back in 1942. The bow and stern are pretty distinct, with the triple-expansion engine still a commanding presence, encrusted in vibrant sponges and soft corals. Light streams down, illuminating barracuda that patrol the deeper sections of the wreck and schools of snapper that dart through gaps in the twisted metal. We always spend time circling the engine room, picturing the steam and steel, then drift over to the debris field where parrotfish graze on the coral growth. It’s an easy, relaxed dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who appreciates a bit of history mingling with abundant reef life, without the pressure of depth or strong currents. For us, this is a perfect afternoon second dive, letting the sun play across the wreck.
