U-Boat - Andros

Andros’ U-Boat wreck, a casualty of WWII, really stands out. We love a good piece of history underwater, and this one delivers. It’s not actually a U-Boat, mind you, but a British landing craft, known locally as a U-Boat due to its torpedo-like shape. Don't go expecting a conning tower. The wreck sits at around 20-25 metres, easy enough for advanced open water divers. What you'll find here is a surprisingly intact hull, well colonised by the reef. The open cargo hold is our favourite part, a giant shadowed space where nurse sharks often snooze. We've finned through it and seen huge schools of grunts hanging like curtains, shimmering in the shafts of light that pierce the deck. Keep an eye out for resident green morays peeking from crevices. The wreck attracts a lot of snapper and barracuda, too, circling just off the structure. It’s a dive that offers both a tangible link to the past and a bustling ecosystem thriving on man-made structure. We'd suggest going early; the light penetration is best then.
