CUMAREBO I - Klein Bonaire

There’s a real history to Cumarebo I, even if the reason she sank in 1987 is lost to time. Lying just off Klein Bonaire, this isn't your average upright wreck. We’re talking about a 73.5m bulk carrier that’s completely upside down and broken into three large pieces. It’s a bit of a surreal sight, really, swimming over the inverted hull before dropping down to explore the torn sections. The stern, in particular, is a fascinating mess of metal, now softened by decades of coral growth. Look closely, and you’ll spot schooling French grunts tucked into the overhangs, and we’ve seen some decent-sized green morays peeking out from beneath the twisted plates. Because it's a relatively shallow wreck, topping out at 15m, you get plenty of bottom time to really soak it all in. We'd suggest focusing on the mid-section where the break is most dramatic, that's where the light plays best and the fish life seems densest. It's a proper adventure for anyone who loves a good wreck dive without the need for deep technical skills.
