Karpata - Klein Bonaire

Karpata. Ah, Karpata. We love this site. It’s got that classic Bonaire drop-off, a steep wall that just keeps going. The entry can be a bit of a scramble over ironshore, so definitely bring your booties and take your time. Once you’re in, the buoyancy challenge begins – you'll want to hover and just take it all in. What makes Karpata special? For us, it’s the sheer scale of the hard corals. There are massive starlet coral heads, some the size of small cars, and impressive grooved brain coral structures that are centuries old. Look closely and you might spot an Atlantic yellow cowrie clinging to the underside of a plate coral. You’ll drift past schools of round scad, flashing silver, and a lazy hawksbill turtle is often spotted munching away. Keep an eye out for yellowhead wrasse zipping around and the occasional chain moray peeking from a crevice. We’ve found the best light hits the wall in the late morning, really making the corals pop. It’s a site that rewards slow, observant diving, perfect for those who appreciate the quiet grandeur of a healthy reef.
