The Rock - Klein Bonaire

The Rock is one of those spots on Klein Bonaire that just delivers, time and again. We usually hit this one as a second dive, a nice, easy drift along the wall. What we love about it is the sheer number of French grunts and spot snappers. They form these dense, silvery schools, often sheltering just under the lip of the reef, so thick you can feel the pressure of their bodies in the water as you swim through. Keep an eye out for the Atlantic diplodons; they’re often tucked into crevices, and we’ve had some great encounters with green turtles here too, just cruising by, totally unbothered. The reef itself has some robust grooved brain coral and maze coral formations, offering plenty of nooks for those smaller fish like glass gobies and yellowline gobies to hide. We’ve even seen Caribbean reef squid here, their colours shifting like something out of a sci-fi film. If you’re lucky enough to dive it in the late afternoon, the light filters through the water beautifully, making the schools of herring shimmer even more. This is a perfect drift for divers who appreciate dense fish life and a relaxed pace.
