Windsock - Klein Bonaire

Windsock, off Klein Bonaire, is one of those sites we always try to hit, especially if we’re doing a two-tank morning trip. We tend to start our drift here, letting the gentle current carry us north along the wall. The reef crest is shallow, letting the morning sun really light up the lettuce coral and blushing star coral, a vibrant backdrop for the schools of doctorfish that glide by. We've seen Caribbean reef squid here, often hovering curiously before darting off, their colours rippling. As you drift deeper, past about 15 metres, the reef transitions into a mix of grooved brain coral and impressive Lamarck’s sheet coral formations. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too; bicolor basslets and banded basslets hide in the crevices, and we’ve even spotted a loggerhead turtle munching on the manatee grass in the sandy patches. This is a great site for photographers, especially macro, given the light and varied topography. It’s an easy, rewarding drift for pretty much any diver comfortable with boat entries.
