The Baths - Virgin Gorda & Anegada

The Baths, on Virgin Gorda, isn't a typical reef dive. Forget your usual coral bommies; here it's all about monumental granite boulders. We’re talking house-sized rocks, tumbled together, creating these incredible swim-throughs and grottoes. Sunlight slices through the water, turning the sand floor into a shifting mosaic of light and shadow, and you just drift along, exploring the channels. It’s shallow, mostly 3-12 meters, so it’s perfect for beginners or anyone wanting a relaxed, long bottom time. We love just hovering, watching the French grunts school under the ledges and the hogfish root around in the sand. Keep an eye out for the waxy gouldclams tucked into the rock crevices – they're a subtle beauty. The highlight is definitely the sensory experience: the cool pockets of water, the sound of your bubbles echoing softly, and that otherworldly light. We'd suggest going early in the morning, before the day-trippers arrive, for the best light and the quietest experience. It’s less about big pelagics and more about the sheer geological wonder.
