Diving Center - Grand Cayman

Diving Center is an odd name for a dive site, we admit, but don't let the bland moniker fool you. This spot on Grand Cayman’s western side often gets overlooked, which is exactly why we love it. You drop down onto a gentle slope, maybe 15 metres deep, and the first thing you notice is the colour – a lot of the coral here, especially the big brain and star corals, have this really healthy, almost glowing hue. We’ve had some fantastic encounters here, particularly with porkfish and margates schooling up, just drifting along the reef edge. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too; we once spent a good ten minutes watching a bladed wentletrap inching its way across a sponge. It’s a great site for photographers who appreciate the details and those who prefer a more relaxed pace. The currents are usually negligible, making it perfect for longer bottom times. We'd suggest going in the late afternoon; the light really brings out the textures in the boulder brain corals.
