KIRK PRIDE - Grand Cayman

The Kirk Pride isn't one of those perfect, upright wrecks. We love it because it’s more like a scatter of memories, broken apart by time and the ocean. Sunk in '76 with some of its cargo still aboard, this 55-metre motor vessel now lies in just six metres of water off George Town, making it ideal for a long, relaxed dive or even a snorkel if you’re keen. You’ll find pieces of its structure spread across the sand, creating little havens for all sorts of critters. Look closely, and you’ll spot schooling snapper darting between twisted metal and moray eels peeking out from beneath plates of hull. The shallow depth means sunlight drenches the site, illuminating sponges and corals that have taken hold on every available surface. It's a fantastic spot for photographers looking for interesting textures and light, and for new divers building confidence around shipwrecks without the pressures of depth or strong currents. Our pick for an easy afternoon dive when you want something a bit different from a wall.
