RIDGEFIELD - Grand Cayman

Ridgefield isn't your typical Grand Cayman dive. This isn't a wall dive, and you won't be dropping to 30 metres. What you get here is a piece of history, just seven metres down. The Liberty Ship lies broken, split in two by the reef that claimed her in '62. We love that you can see her lines, the massive scale of her, even though she's been well and truly broken up. It's a real shallow wreck crawl, perfect for a long bottom time, and the light is always incredible, filtering through the scattered remains. It feels like swimming through a giant, industrial art installation, all encrusted with sponges and hard corals. Look closely and you'll spot lobsters tucked into every crevice, schools of snapper hanging out in the darker shadows, and barracuda often cruise slowly overhead. The bow section is our favourite part; you can still make out the anchor chains and the foredeck structure. This is a brilliant second dive, or for those days when you just want a relaxed, fascinating exploration without the depth. It's shallow enough for almost anyone, but the sheer scale of the wreck keeps even experienced divers engaged.
