Pecios Cayo los Indios - María la Gorda

Pecios Cayo los Indios is our kind of wreck dive, a real highlight when you’re out in María la Gorda. It’s not just one hull, you see, but a scattering of old wrecks, some dating back centuries, sunk close enough to each other that you can spend an entire dive exploring. We love the way the coral has just swallowed these ships whole, transforming jagged metal into vibrant reef. You’ll drift over cannons encrusted with sponges, swim past anchors that now serve as apartment blocks for schools of grunts and snapper. The ambient light here, filtering through the water and reflecting off the white sand around the wrecks, gives everything a really atmospheric feel. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into crevices; they’re almost always lurking. We'd suggest getting here earlier in the day if you can, before any surge picks up, when the visibility is at its best. It’s an easygoing site, perfect for divers who appreciate a bit of history mingling with their marine life encounters.
