TROLLA - Sosua & Puerto Plata

The Trolla wreck is a bit of a local legend, a cargo ship that went down in 1960 and now sits in seriously shallow water – only 5 metres deep. We love it because it’s so accessible, making it our pick for a leisurely second dive or even a great spot for newer divers to get a feel for a wreck without any pressure. You can easily spend an hour finning around her, spotting schools of sergeant majors darting in and out of the corroded hull. The light here is incredible, filtering through the water and illuminating the sponges and small corals that have started to colonise the metal. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into crevices; they’re pretty comfortable around divers here. It’s not a deep, dramatic wreck penetration, but more of a sun-drenched, fish-filled exploration of history. Just be mindful of other divers, it can get a little busy, especially on a calm afternoon.
