Moliniere Underwater Sculpture Park - Southwest Coast

We’re big fans of an artificial reef, especially one that blends art with ecology like Moliniere. It’s shallow, only ever reaching 8m, which makes it perfect for newer divers, or for those days when you just want a relaxed second dive. What makes it a standout for us isn’t just Jason deCaires Taylor’s evocative figures, but how quickly nature has embraced them. Swim through the 'Vicissitudes' circle of children, and you’ll spot Longspine Squirrelfish tucked into crevices. The 'Lost Correspondent' often has a shy Masked Goby peeking from his typewriter. We love watching the Glassy Sweepers shimmer around 'The Christ of the Deep', catching the light just so. Look closely at the coral formations; you might see Emerald Clingfish clinging to the new growth. If you time it right, say mid-morning before the crowds, the light filters down beautifully, giving the sculptures an almost ethereal glow. It’s a site that proves art and conservation can, and should, coexist.
