Navigator Wreck - Kadavu & Great Astrolabe Reef

The Navigator Wreck isn’t just a pile of metal at 30 metres, it's a genuine slice of Kadavu history, and we love a good story with our dives. This old inter-island cargo ship, sunk deliberately in the late 1980s, has become a proper fish magnet. Dropping down, you’ll first see the stern, remarkably intact, with the prop still in place, often covered in dense schools of fusiliers, swirling around you like a silver curtain. We always head straight for the bridge area; it’s largely open, allowing for some easy penetration, and light filters in beautifully through the old windows, illuminating big lionfish that seem to own the place. You can easily spend your entire bottom time just circling the main superstructure. Look closely at the deck plates and you’ll find nudibranchs in colours that pop, and we’ve spotted moray eels peeking out from every shadowed corner. The current here is usually mild, making it a relaxed intermediate dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who likes to take their time exploring a wreck without being rushed. Our favourite part? The sense of scale you get, seeing how completely the sea has reclaimed it. It's a reminder of human presence, now thoroughly blended into the reef system.
