NEGERA - Kadavu & Great Astrolabe Reef

We’ve always had a soft spot for a good wreck, and Negera, resting upright in only five metres of water, is a standout. This old motor vessel struck Tivao Reef back in ‘82, and the shallow depth means you get incredible light penetration, even on a cloudy day. Sunlight dapples through the superstructure, illuminating the schools of glassfish that shimmer inside the cabins – it’s a real spectacle. What makes Negera special for us isn't just the history, it’s how completely it’s been reclaimed by the reef. The hull is just covered in vibrant soft corals, purples and oranges that sway gently with the surge. Look closely and you’ll find nudibranchs crawling along the railings and emperor angelfish darting between the broken portholes. We love how approachable it is; you can spend a solid hour just exploring the deck, peeking into the holds, and circling the mast without ever feeling rushed or deep. It’s perfect for snorkelers too, and a great spot for photographers wanting to capture both the wreck and the sunlit reef life in one frame. It’s not a challenging dive, just pure, relaxed exploration.
