WESTERN GLORY - Northeast Coast

The Western Glory is one of those wrecks that just grabs you, even from the surface. We love a good piece of history underwater, and this old carrier, sunk in ‘93 after a collision, delivers. She lies on her starboard side, the mast reaching up to about 30 metres, which means you get a proper sense of her scale as you descend. It’s a deep dive, down to 54 metres, so this one's for the experienced, tec-minded crowd. We’ve spent hours exploring her, especially the bridge area. You can still make out the outline of equipment, now encrusted with sponges and hydroids. Schools of trevally often swirl around the bow, and we’ve spotted giant morays peeking from cargo holds. Visibility here can be temperamental, sometimes dropping to ten metres, but when it’s good, the light plays beautifully off the hull. We’d suggest going early in the morning to beat any potential chop and to get the best light penetration. It’s a moody, impressive dive, perfect for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate a bit of a challenge and a real story.
